The Big Lebowski OST

The Big Lebowski – soundtrack review

I’m pretty sure most film fans go through their ‘Big Lebowski’ phase. I know it was certainly a film I loved and quoted (and quoted…..and quoted) when I was a teenager. And you know, still to this day I’m not completely sure what happened. The kidnapping, the porn stars and nihilists. The Jesus. The bowling tournament. Talk about a complicated plot.

But today we’re here to discuss the film’s soundtrack. Which I’ve owned for goodness how many years, but (pay attention here kids) this is what happens when you look after something – it still works fine.

The Big Lebowski soundtrack is very similar to the film. Eclectic, slightly odd and very far out man. It’s a groovy soundtrack but some of the tracks are just flat out weird and taken from the context of the film, just sound, well – flat out weird. But luckily there are enough decent tracks to pull it through and actually, it’s better than I remembered. There are tracks on here by Elvis Costello and Nina Simone and of course the AWESOME Gipsy Kings cover of Hotel California – which I just adore.

Plus, how funny is this scene?

My second favourite track is Kenny Rogers & The First Edition – Just Dropped In. I simply cannot listen to this track without dancing. Even if I’m sitting down, my shoulders WILL take over – guaranteed. And film score fans don’t fear, Coen brothers regular Carter Burwell is on here too – obviously. Duh. He wrote the main score.

All in all this isn’t some perfect compilation, but it suits the film and there’s undoubtedly something for everyone. And if someone says it’s rubbish, do you know what I’ll say back?

Yeah…..well…..that’s just like…….your opinion man.

Or even….(it depends on my mood that day)…..

Un de mes 10 films préféré.
Vu à sa sortie comme tous les fims des fréres Coen.
Une bande son come le fim: culte.

OH — your CD and mine have completely different covers. I’m not sure if they were different depending on where you live? Mine is the Dude and Julianne Moore holding the bowling ball, from the mid-movie dream sequence.

I know what you mean yeah! Maybe they are different in different countries or were just released differently? Hmmm! Not sure. What’s your favourite track?!!! 🙂

I think Bob Dylan. It’s just a really nice song, but who doesn’t like some Gipsy Kings doing the Eagles too? And of course you nailed it with the Kenny Rogers track. I have known that song for many years because my mom was a Kenny fan and had that track on a tape. I was surprised but delighted to hear it in the movie!

This is one of my favourite soundtracks. There were some artists I didn’t realize were on the soundtrack, until I got the CD.

I recommend this with a white russian while trying to expand your mind. The Dude abides.

Haha, I said The Dude abides to you in a comment just then, before I read this!! Great minds think alike 🙂

What’s your favourite track if you can narrow it down? 🙂

It’s a film that’s hard to describe, but it is clever, and it comes together so well, it is also impossible to resist. The soundtrack goes very well with the oddball story too.
    If we are ‘voting’ for Coen brothers films, then for me it is;
    1) Blood Simple.
    2) Miller’s crossing.
They have also made a couple I am not at all bothered about…
    Take care Emma. Pete. x

Thanks Pete! Yes definitely, you’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s certainly not one of my favourite movies but I am very fond of it and love some of the characters!

I’m not a huge Coen brothers fan, I find their movies too wacky sometimes but I do love Fargo 🙂

Nice selection from you! Take care also 🙂 x
