Darren – Movie Reviews 101
When it comes to books too movies we have had many classic films come from source material, Shawhank Redemption, The Shining, Harry Potter series the list goes on but I don’t read too many books in fact I think I have only read about 6 books since school and I watch to pick my favourite of the film that read. The list includes World War Z…

Well, I voted for you this time. You’re onto a winner with Shawshank. What a classic. James way up at the top of the comments section seems like a nice guy, but he’s dead wrong about “The Shawshank Redemption” — clearly the greatest film ever made either the word Shawshank or Redemption in the title.

Booooooooo! Shawshank is rubbish! Vote One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest instead

I would vote for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest but I heard the guy who picked it is a bit dodgy……..! 🙂

Sounds interesting….! Have you done your Anime / Worst remake yet…? 🙂

Nope but I’m thinking Spirited Away/Akira for Anime and I don’t want to think of worst remake just yet, there are too many horrors to choose from

I’m gonna do Spirited Away too!! Great minds this alike :p
To be fair the only anime I’ve EVER watched it Studio Ghibli so it’s forgone conclusion!
I need time to decide on worst sequel too 🙂 and my thinking is similar to yours!

Grr. I tried to respond on Darren’s blog and once again I wound up having to reboot my iPad. I wonder what it is about his blog? And to add insult to injury, I couldn’t make out your piece because for some reason it’s in teensy weensy print. I’m a tad cranky right now.😡 I do like your selection though Ems. I thought this was one of the best adaptations. Especially when you think it’s actually a short story. Have you watched Stand By Me? That’s one of my favs also.

There was also an adaptation of a Stephen King book called “The Stand”. Starring Rob Lowe (as a deaf mute-fabulous), Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald! Ed Harris also appears in an uncredited role. It is one of my favourite books ever and this mini-series was tremendous, considering the scope (the end of the world) and the small budget. Loved it!!!

I know the adaptation you mean 🙂 I’ve never seen it though. In fact I’ve never seen or read The Stand! But I know it’s a big favourite with a lot of people.
I will watch this mini-series as some point, promise!! Far more realistic than me reading the whole book anyway lol 🙂

I agree! Did you read the unedited version? It was even better than the first. And I loved the mini-series!

I know! To both things you said lol 🙂
His site is often slow, I have told him before. And my choice was The Shawshank Redemption 🙂 same as two others!!!! Lol.
I wish I’d chosen Harry P now, as no-one else did which is UNREAL!

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the HP movies myself. 😕 I thought for sure someone would pick them. I don’t think I’ve gotten an email from you today Ems! I’m going to check right now.

How about “The Godfather” and “The Godfather Part II” from the novel “The Godfather” by Mario Puzo! Two outstanding movie achievements!
“The Great Escape” from the book “The Great Escape” by Paul Brickhill……….another classic film adaptation!

Excellent choices!!! Thanks Ron 🙂 I think any movie that has surpassed the popularity of its original book is a very good contender.
You should join in the with the next Opinion Wars!!! The next two rounds are – Best Anime and Worst Sequel 🙂

From the selection, I voted for ‘Goodfellas.’ I would have put ‘Schindler’s List’ in there too, as it was a pretty good adaptation of the book, ‘Schindler’s Ark.’
Best wishes, Pete.
