Opinion Battles – Favourite Alien Based Film!
Opinion Battles Round 13
Favourite Alien Based Film
Over the years we have had so many films revolving aliens, be it them invading Earth, visiting or just whacky space sagas. The alien characters have become iconic in cinema because of the mystery surrounding outer space so today we are going to look at our favourite film with alien(s) as the main part of the film. We are selecting this to celebrate the release of Independence Day: Resurgence.
If you want to enter the next round of Opinion Battles we will be looking at our favourite Leonardo DiCaprio roles, if you want to enter send your choice to moviereviews101@yahoo.co.ukwith closing date being Sunday the 10th July 2016.

I love Alien because it was the first non-sexist sci-fi movie

I would mention one from my childhood, the movie that gave me my pre-teen Kim Basinger crush: My Stepmother is an Alien. It’s silly, it’s heartwarming and pretty well made for what is essentially a strange rom-com.
I’m very fond of the first Men in Black, also Predator 1.
Too many to decided on a single one.

All three are great choices! It is hard to whittle down 🙂 I like silly movies! I sooo have to re-watch that soon! Men in Black is fun too. And Predator! Get to theeee chopper 🙂

I should check out My Stepmom is an Alien again. Haven’t seen it in more than a decade. Should do an oldies marathon, so I can include Croc Dundee there as well 🙂

I like your choice, because you don’t actually see a monster, so it’s more frightening. I had to vote for Scarlett though. She’s a dish! (You are too, of course. That goes without saying.)
Here is my comment from there.
‘I had to vote for Under The Skin, because Scarlett is perfect in the role. But I have a lot of time for Emma’s choice too, as there are no monsters, just possessed animals and humans. That makes it scary!’
As ever, Pete. XXX

Aww, thanks Pete!! 🙂 You always make me smile.
I’m glad you like my choice, completely understand you going with Scarlett hee hee.
I enjoy The Thing for similar reasons too! I love the effects in it as well and the fact that Ennio Morricone scored the soundtrack. AND the isolation – I love films that center around a group of people isolated like that. Always interesting 🙂
As ever back xxx
P.S I’m going on holiday tomorrow and won’t be online until next week, in case you miss me!!! X

Pish Posh. The best ‘alien movie” is the classic black-white “The Thing”. It does a very good job doing the “Slaying the Monster’ story. All those suspenseful dark shadows etc. Lovely.

Normally I’d insist on 2001. But you never see physical aliens in it except perhaps in the mind-trip scene. So I’ll go with Close Encounters.

Nice choice 🙂 Close Encounters I mean. I’ve only watched 2001 once and I found it a real snooze fest! Ha ha.

It can be if you’re not in the right mindset. Reading the book helps!

I was in the right mindset, I just didn’t like it 🙂 I’m not a ‘huge’ fan of many Kubrick movies to be fair.

Gotcha.
I don’t know when I got into his stuff. Must have been 2001. I was always into space and sci-fi as a kid, and I remember being very young and my dad watching 2001 with me, trying to explain it. Then I ignored it for years until I bought the novel by Clarke in a used book shop. I devoured it in a matter of days, and that kicked off a serious obsession with both Kubrick AND Clarke.
But I get where you’re coming from. Are there are Kubricks you liked? Full Metal Jacket is about as “normal” as they got, I suppose.

That’s a cool story! Are you still into space now?
Um, I quite like The Shining and I enjoy A Clockwork Orange! I saw that in the cinema when I was about 13 haha, our local cinema was so desperate for custom they let us watch anything lol.
