Jan & Feb in Pictures

Now before you scroll down and see what an exciting life I lead (sarcasm is the lowest form of wit) I must hasten to tell you that I DIDN’T PLAN ON DOING THIS AND AS SUCH TOOK NO ‘SPECIAL PHOTOS’ (EXCEPT THOSE FROM MY HOLIDAY) AND HAVE SIMPLY DUG UP WHAT I LIKE TO AFFECTIONATELY CALL ‘THE DREGS FROM MY PHONE’.

Such an important fact I felt it imperative to mention AND TYPE IN CAPITALS.

And also, just so you know, I could have gone just crazy with food pictures. One actual constructive point that has at least come from doing this lazy girl post, is how I’ve now sadly realised that I take FAR TOO MANY pictures of food – on a daily basis.

Food in shops, food in front of me, food in windows, food on plates in restaurants (yes – I’m one of those guys), food on the internet, food that belongs to others, food dropped on the pavement. Just soooo much food. I actually had to omit a few pictures (most of them), because this isn’t fucking Masterchef is it. Not that my pictures make you think of Masterchef as such. There’s almost a whole roll dedicated to Wetherspoons for instance. And there is nothing wrog with that.

Jan & Feb In Pictures (let’s take a look at the real me…)

First things first! To see in New Year we took a stroll at Bradwell-on-Sea beach on 1st January.

And I ate my first ever haggis! ON BURN’S NIGHT!!! (25th January) – out of a can! My boyfriend refused to try it but I genuinely loved it. I wrapped it in foil and cooked it in the oven. I then ripped open that sheep’s stomach (sorry vegans etc.) and ate it all like a crazy scotch bastard.

It was also Burger Night at Wetherspoons when I went with the girls…
(please note I had the Ultimate Burger without bacon).

And I ate snails (I literally don’t care, I’d eat anything. Except cats – because I really, really like cats).

snails

In February we went to Iceland (that was where I ate the snails).

Taken at the top of the Hallgrimskirkja church tower in Reykjavík. And here’s me with one of their world famous hot dogs! Anyone who is anyone simply orders it “with everything”. I love WITH EVERYTHING.

Oh and for you Big Lebowski fans, this bar was near our hotel –

I also bought an exciting new purchase, prior to the trip. Nothing says snazzy and amazingly cool like thermal socks does!

And I got my nails done!!

Back in normal life I squeezed in the classic ‘ham, egg and chips’ with my grandad. Loved the touch of Coleman’s mustard in the mini jar.

AND I discovered these in M&S. AND then I bought them. And then my boyfriend ate them all.

I don’t shop in M&S for food as a rule but these were only £1 (though gone up to £1.50 at the time of writing!) AND there’s an M&S food hall really close to where I work. Their jalapeno crunch bites rock too. As do their sour cream & chive pretzels. And don’t even get me STARTED on their cheese puffs (which are no joke better than Wotsits).

Ending the post with a bit of culture and a bit more food. Firstly this fantastic book I had the pleasure in reading, courtesy of someone at work. Very good, a lot smarter than I thought it would be, very funny and also sensitive too (apparently someone’s already bought the film rights).

And tapas. Love tapas. Ribs, prawns, croquettes, meatballs, chicken and chorizo…..

I love this post! All the food made me HUNGRY. I want to read that book too, but my reading list is as long as my arm now so it will have to go into the queue. Iceland looks gorgeous, definitely a place I would love to see!

It looks so good! I am hopefully going to Thailand next year (which is very far from Iceland) but still very excited!

I’ve been good! Work’s been keeping me crazy busy so I am only getting back to my blog now. It’s been too long 😦

        How about you?

That sounds fantastic!!!! I hope you go and then I hope you post loads of pictures so I can see them!

Don’t worry I’m the same and I blame work too! Though I’ve managed a few posts recently most of this year I’ve just been scraping by! I enjoy being on here so much when I do find the time, makes me realise I should FIND the time more often!!!

I’m glad you’re well and it was lovely having a catch up 🙂

  2. Always good to see someone liking Haggis. Being a Scot i do hope you ate it with neeps and tatties (turnip and potatoes). Next time try it with whisky cram sauce… and superimpressed you tried it on Burns night too.

You enjoyed haggis, lassie? I’ve actually had haggis twice, the first time and the last time. Gotta admit it wasn’t so bad–as soon as I washed it down with a wee dram.

  5. OMG that diner! I went to Iceland years ago and I wish I knew it was there!
I also take far too many photos of my food…I can’t resist and I don’t know why!

  6. You’re far more adventurous than I when it comes to food, Emma! I cannot fathom eating haggis, and though I’ve tried them, I cannot abide the texture of snails. And a sunny-side-up fried egg would literally cause me to wretch, as would a poached egg. I had a hard time even scraping the dishes after serving Eggs Benedict at my former bed & breakfast!

I suppose I could be your granddad, even though I don’t want to be. But I am 67 today!
I am jealous of Iceland of course. And I ADORE ham, egg, and chips. But as a nod to my relative ‘yoof’, like it with sweet chili sauce, not mustard.
Oh, Em. Where did I go wrong? I am so old, and jealous of your beau, honey! 🙂
Please forgive my ‘moment of weakness’.
    As ever, Pete. xxxx
