I have had this selection pick by Drew from Drew’s Movie Reviews and I think this will be an interesting discussion between the contestants. We all love a good heist movie because most of the time the leads are likeable even though they are doing something wrong.
As always I would like to thank everyone who has taken part and to everyone who has voted on previous rounds, we will be announcing the winner of the Sequel round over the next couple of days too. Our next subject will be Non Disney/Pixar Animated films and if you would like to get involved email moviereviews101@yahoo.co.uk we will be covering Animé later in the year so don’t expect to see any of them make the selection. From the selection, I voted for ‘Heat’. The drawn out bank raid remains a modern classic. But I did comment that the original, ‘L.A. Takedown’ (1989), was worth considering instead of the Michael Mann straight remake.

It’s not a remake in the classic sense, I think the one that Pete mentioned was just a made-for-TV movie and kind of LED to the making of Heat if you know what I mean 🙂

He’s actually the first person to admit it. And he loves City on Fire!
Thing is, his scripts, dialogue and characters are so unique that it doesn’t really matter 🙂

I adore Tarantino films, and saw him interviewed when he said he copied the Chinese film. I prefer his version to ‘City On Fire’, by a mile. It is his love of film, and his vast knowledge on the subject that makes his own films so special. ‘Pulp Fiction’ was so good, I actually applauded in the cinema, getting some funny looks! And ‘Jackie Brown’ is one of my favourite films of the modern age.
Not knocking Quentin at all, we need more like him.

Good!!!! Lol. Sorry I probably sounded a bit dramatic. I’ve just had so many people preach to me about his films copying other people and how he’s not original etc etc. It’s not news to me and he’s still one of my favourite directors. It’s HIS spin on things at the end of the day and it really is so much about the script (and the soundtracks!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction are both brilliant. Isn’t Jackie Brown based on a book? (Rum Punch if memory serves)
Reservoir Dogs and Inglourious Basterds are my two most fave films by QT 😀

I love all of Tarantino’s films, but my favorite is definitely Inglourious Basterds.

Ooh…toughie. Favorite character: maybe a clichéd choice, but I love Lieutenant Aldo Raine.
Favorite scene: Probably when Raine speaks Italian. I just find his matter-of-fact “buongiorno” to be hilarious.
Favorite line: Col. Hans Landa: Oooh, that’s a bingo! Is that the way you say it? “That’s a bingo?”
I think one of the biggest reasons why I love the film is that I love modern films set in the 40’s. I don’t know why, but I do.

I can hear / picture everything you just said and Aldo being “Italian” is just so funny! He doesn’t even make any effort haha. That scene is really funny!
And when he answers Hans Landa later on – “you just say bingo” Haha!
It’s not cliché at all, Aldo is probably my favourite character too. I just LOVE Brad Pitt when he’s playing someone like that.
Well….he’s my joint favourite along with Michael Fassbender’s Archie Hicox – I really, really loved him. So….British!
And Shosanna. Okay I have like three favourites haha.
I just love the integrity and bravery in the movie – more than anything. I love films with brave characters and I loved the whole thing! Plus the cast was excellent and the soundtrack has a lot of Ennio Morricone – which is v good 😀
Maybe you just like the feel of the 40s? The clothes? The way people spoke and acted? The atmosphere?
What other films do you like that are set in that era? 🙂

Other movies set in the 40’s that I love: The Rocketeer and Captain America: The First Avenger. I think it might be the colors of the 40’s. The reds and others. They’re very vibrant.

I loved Captain America because of that retro vibe 🙂 definitely the use of colour that I noticed. I’ve not seen The Rocketeer but I’ll look it up 🙂

Joe Johnston directed both The Rocketeer and Cap. America. I haven’t seen The Rocketeer in a while.

It was made for TV, then released as a DVD. It is more or less scene by scene though. I still like the Mann version nonetheless, but the original has bite, as there are no huge stars. Worth a look.
