My chosen film for Genre Grandeur is Starter for 10. Thanks so much to Justine for choosing such a brilliant genre to write about. As soon as I heard what it was I thought it was absolute genius. And of course thanks to Rob for hosting the brilliant GG each month!

Good review. I loved Mark Gatiss as Bamber Gascoigne in this film. he got him completely. But then I am old enough to remember the original!
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks so much Pete!
I love Mark Gatiss, he’s such a charming man and very clever and he loves horror! I must confess I never knew Bamber first hand from watching UC – I grew up on Paxman 🙂 but I have no doubt that his performance was sterling.
Best wishes to you too!

All I remember from bits of Shameless is fighting, drugs and a whole lot of shagging going on.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah that’s pretty much it! I liked series 3 and 4 the most, I really loved the Maguire family 🙂 it was a pretty clever program but I do believe it lost it towards the end.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know that sounds dodgy but all I remember is really everyone shagging almost constantly. I’m sure there’s more to the show than that though.
LikeLiked by 1 person
The violence and swearing probably sticks in my head more than shagging but there was quite a bit!
It was a really clever programme, so well written! It changed quite a bit over the years though, comparing series 1 to series 9 – they’re almost different programs.
But so long as Frank was propping up the bar somewhere, it always was Shameless at heart 🙂

I always seem to remember Carl getting paid by a woman to have almost constant sex with her. Why I remember that is beyond me.

I’m not surprised you remember it!!! 🙂

All I kept thinking during that scene was ‘Carl, you’re one lucky bastard’. haha.

I take it from the comments, you were a fan of Shameless. I caught some of it when it was on but I don’t know I felt about it. Would you advise a rewatch Emma?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes definitely! It may still even be free to watch on 4od 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
May have to watch it again, if for anything the constant bonking, hehe.

This is true!!!!! I always had a crush on Shane Maguire.

Really, that’s interesting. I knew a girl who always had a thing for Carl. Sorry for the late reply Emma.

Any particular reason why they liked him?

His body and his stamina I think lol

How very saucy, from what I saw, he was quite the lovemaker in that scene I mentioned earlier, hehe.

I wouldn’t say I love it, just jealous of Carl and his charm with women, haha.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m not it’s his charm they’re after !
He was a good character though. He has a twin brother who’s an actor too, I believe he was in Emmerdale!

Well the woman in the clip got more than just his charm.

The main thing that stopped me sending you the link was that I thought, Emma’s gonna get some interesting search terms if this goes on her site, haha.

Aww that’s sweet of you to consider that!! I bet I would have some very pervy search terms!!!
Did you find out if the whole of the series was on 4od?

I haven’t checked yet but I will later. Are you sure you don’t want the link, it would give you some funny search terms.

I will do 🙂 I’ve got Shameless on DVD anyway haha so I must have seen it before at some point. It can be very rude can Shameless!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Definitely rude, will be interesting to see your feedback to it. Could spark another round of innuendo comments, hehe.

Thanks Vinnie 🙂
Yes he does doesn’t he!!

As the Telltale Mind said in an earlier comment, the first time I saw him was in Shameless.

A coming-of-age movie with James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch and I’ve never heard of it? What is wrong with me?! You’re like my new go-to person for good things I’ve never seen. Well done!

And you’re mine!!!!!
This is just a small little English film, it probably wasn’t a huge movie at the time. In fact I barely ever hear anyone talk about it and if I hadn’t read the book I doubt I would ever have watched it.
It’s on Netflix UK so fingers crossed (I’m crossing my fingers and it’s hard to type) it’s on your Netflix too!!!!!!!
Thanks Justine 🙂 your genre choice was AMAZING! I love these sorts of films so looking forward to more and more recommendations!! And your review of course 🙂

McAvoy looks like a teenager!

Did you ever watch Shameless when McAvoy was on it in series 1? He’s really young there. lol

I think he’s still married to the girl from it isn’t he? Fiona the daughter. That’s so cute!

Shameless is one of my favourite shows of all time, maybe even by absolute favourite. And yep, I have seen them all. Such a great show, so funny and brilliant – I could watch them again and again quite easily.
And he is still married to her, though her name escapes me.

Haha excellent!! I loved Shameless too. I thought it got a bit silly towards the end but still good to watch!
I loved the Maguires. I loved them so much!! Paddy Maguire was brilliant and I had a weird crush on Shane!!!! 🙂
Nice to speak to another Shameless fan 🙂 it was pretty underrated really.

NO! It always looked like she had a receding hairline. Couldn’t get past that. Shallow, I know, but….

True story. Even at the end, the show never failed to entertain. I do wish the Gallagher’s had all returned at the end though.

It should have been written into their contracts they all came back for the final episode….seriously!!!! We invested YEARS into watching Shameless! Only fair afterall 🙂
Yeah I totally agree, even the last series was packed full of fun!

I was pretty sad when it ended. The show could literally have kept going and going, but all good things they say.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I must say I thought the last series or two were a bit weird but it still worked. They just wanted to be slightly more surreal I suppose! But so long as Frank was in it….Shameless could have always gone on and on and on 🙂
I must say my favourite series were 4 – 6 just because of the Maguires!!!!
